Workflow Architecture & Governance
Our documentation operates on a strict Docs-as-Code philosophy. This means our written content is treated with the exact same rigor, version control, and review processes as our software codebase.
There are two supported paths for authoring content: the visual Sveltia CMS (recommended for standard updates) and the Local IDE (recommended for deep structural changes). Both paths ultimately follow the exact same Git workflow.
The Publishing Pipeline
Section titled “The Publishing Pipeline”graph TD;
A[Local VS Code] -->|git push| C(GitHub Repository);
B[Sveltia CMS] -->|Direct Commit| C;
C -->|Webhook Trigger| D{Render CI/CD};
D -- Invalid Frontmatter --> E[Build Fails Safely];
D -- Passes Zod Schema --> F[Deploy to Live Site];
Every new article or major update must go through the following lifecycle before reaching the live site:
-
Drafting: Authors create or edit
.mdxfiles either via the Sveltia CMS dashboard or locally in their IDE (like VS Code). -
Version Control (Branching): Never commit directly to the
mainbranch. All work must be done on a semantic feature branch (e.g.,docs/add-sso-guideorfix/typo-in-faq). (Note: Sveltia CMS handles this automatically when you use the “Editorial Workflow” setting). -
Pull Request (PR) & Review: Once the draft is complete, open a Pull Request against the
mainbranch. At least one peer review is required. Reviewers will check for technical accuracy, Voice & Tone compliance, and proper component usage. -
Continuous Integration (CI): Our Render pipeline will automatically build a staging preview of your branch. If the build fails (e.g., due to a missing frontmatter title or broken Markdown), the PR cannot be merged until the errors are resolved.
-
Merge & Deploy: Once approved, the PR is merged into
main. Render automatically detects this merge and deploys the new documentation to the live site within minutes.
Content Audits
Section titled “Content Audits”To ensure our Knowledge Base doesn’t become a graveyard of outdated information, every article must be reviewed at least once every 6 months. If a feature is deprecated in the software, its corresponding documentation must be removed or archived in the same deployment cycle.
